Stuart Walker – Abstract Horizon Sneakers
Stuart Walker (1904–1940) was an American painter known for his transition from naturalistic landscapes to abstract compositions. Born in Indiana, he studied at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis and later moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1925, seeking a milder climate due to health concerns. There, he co-founded Wallis Studio, a commercial design studio, and became president of the Art League of New Mexico around 1929. In the early 1930s, influenced by modernist movements and artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Walker began creating non-objective canvases focusing on color, rhythm, and design. He was an original member of the Transcendental Painting Group, founded in 1938 in Santa Fe, which aimed to explore spiritual and abstract themes in art. Walker's work often blended geometric and organic forms, utilizing muted natural colors reflective of the New Mexico landscape. His promising career was cut short when he died in 1940 at the age of thirty-five
