  • Hasegawa Kyūzō (1568–1593) was a Japanese painter of the Azuchi–Momoyama period and the eldest son of the renowned artist Hasegawa Tōhaku. Trained under his father's guidance, Kyūzō contributed significantly to the Hasegawa school's artistic legacy.

One of his most celebrated works is the "Cherry Blossom" (桜図, Sakura Zu) painting, created around 1592 for the Chishaku-in Temple in Kyoto. This masterpiece, designated as a National Treasure of Japan, showcases a cherry tree in full bloom against a gold-leaf background, exemplifying the school's minimalist yet expressive style. Tragically, Kyūzō's promising career was cut short when he died in 1593 at the age of 25. Despite his brief life, his works left an indelible mark on Japanese art, reflecting a harmonious blend of natural beauty and refined elegance.
